The average Christian, church-going teenager spends an average of 40 hours a year in youth group.  Comparatively, they spend 400 hours a year playing video games.  But don't despair about who or what is  influencing your teen, because parents spend an average of 3,000 hours a year with their teenager.  YOU are the biggest influence in your student's life.

Our goal at HSM is to partner with you and be an additional caring voice in your child's life.  We invite you to participate with us by volunteering at HSM for events, activities and services.  Drop by and sit in on one of our youth services and observe how we do things.  And please, contact us with any questions or concerns.

We are here to serve you and your family.  Please let us know how we can partner with you.

  • Parents: The Truth About Sex

On Sunday nights in May, we will be in our annual series on sex.  In both Middle School and High School we will be talking frankly about the Biblical views on sex and how it relates to your student.

In Middle School, I will be teaching, and we will follow up that teaching with LIFEgroup break-out discussions based on the teaching.

In High School, we will be showing a series of videos featuring teaching by Doug Fields, a pastor, teacher, and 30 year veteran of youth ministry.  The videos contain Biblical teaching broken up by student testimonies about their positive and negative experiences in this area.  These videos can be blunt at times, but they present Biblical views on sex, and certainly are not worse than what your student probably hears everyday on a regular basis at school, on TV, with friends, or on the internet.  High school students will also break up into LIFEgroups to discuss what they hear in the videos.

I want to encourage you to have conversations during the month of May with your student about sex.  I will help provide you with some discussion questions that relate to the teaching your student will hear on Sunday nights.  Take the time ask questions when driving them around town, at the dinner table, or in a quiet moment in their room.  It can be intimidating, and awkward, but if you don't talk to them about it, someone else will!

I also want to invite you to sit in on one of our services during this series.  Come and see what we're teaching and how we're teaching it.  I know you'll appreciate someone speaking godly values into your student's life.  You can sit in the back away from your student, because God forbid you embarrass them!

If you have any questions about this series, please feel free to contact me.  I'd be happy to talk with you about it.
