FAQ

Where and where do you meet?

What can I expect at your services?

It's our hope that when you enter the doors at Horizon, you are warmly welcomed in a relaxed “living room-like” environment. We dress casually and enjoy a comfortable, relational style. Our music is varied, from upbeat and contemporary to reflective and inspirational, all designed to worship the God who loves us. Our congregation is multi-generational and appeals to a wide-range of ages and walks of life that make it great for families to attend church together. Refreshments are served between services in an effort to draw people together for a time of building friendships and encouraging each other. There are gatherings for children, youth, and adults of all ages geared to their needs and interests. It is our desire that Sundays at Horizon will be the best part the week for all who attend.

What’s available for my child?

We have worship services, events & ministries to fit the needs of your family and the life stage of your child. At Horizon, it is our desire to partner with families to encourage spiritual growth in young lives.

For children, age infant through 5th grade, visit the children's ministries section of our website.  Our Children's Ministries Welcome Center is fully staffed with hosts that will register you in our system and help you find each of your child's classrooms. Please stop by the CMWC before proceeding to your child's classroom.

For middle & high school students visit the student ministries section of our website.

What’s available for my teenager?

On Sundays during the 9:15 am service, we have a Student Lounge where students can hang out, eat cereal, and have fun.

On Sunday nights, we have small groups that meet in homes, which allow students the opportunity to get into more in depth teaching and give them a chance to connect with each other on a deeper level.

During the week, we have a worship service designed with teens in mind. This takes place at our Sagert campus from 7-8:30 pm: Tuesday nights for junior high students and Wednesday nights for high school students.

We believe in young people and work with them to help them discover their gifts & talents. A number of students serve as a part of the worship band, or as greeters or small group leaders for Children’s Ministry. There are many opportunities throughout the church ministries for students to be actively involved.  Students are a valued part of our church.

What do you believe?

God.
We believe in God, who is three distinct Persons in one: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Who has revealed Himself in the Bible.

  • The Father. He is the loving Creator of all things.
  • The Son, Jesus. He is God come to Earth in the form of man, the only Son of God. It is only through faith in Him that man can have relationship with God and be assured of eternal life.
  • The Holy Spirit. He is the Spirit of God Who exalts Jesus and dwells within all those who have been born again. He is our Comforter and Guide, revealing God to us, and empowering us to be witnesses.
Bible.
All of the Bible is the written Word of God. It is the first authority for our life and faith in Jesus Christ.
    Spiritual Gifts.
All spiritual gifts mentioned in the New Testament are available for the church today.

      What should I wear?

While our staff may be dressed in jeans, we encourage you to be yourself. When you attend a service, you may see someone in a suit or in sweats. We are excited to have you join us.

      Do you have Podcast?

Our weekly podcast is available on iTunes.  For specific information on how to subscribe to our podcast, visit our podcast page.

Do you have a class for those who are new?

Life@Horizon is a 2 week quarterly class that is designed for those who:

      • are new to our church
      • would like to know more about our vision, beliefs, and ministries
      • may be new in their relationship with Jesus
      • are interested in becoming members
      • would like to meet our pastoral staff

Do you have a parking lot shuttle?

We won’t leave you out in the cold!  We have a shuttle that makes frequent trips from the parking lot to the covered main entry on Sunday mornings.

      How can I get involved?

There are many opportunities at Horizon!

Please visit the Helping at Horizon page if you're looking for a place to serve.  For other events and gatherings, visit the Get Connected page.

      How Important are LIFEgroups?

LIFEgroups are becoming an integral part of “doing life” at Horizon Community.  As an expression of our “Family Room” Environment, LIFEgroups are where dynamic ministry will take place as we encourage, support, and challenge one another.  God doesn’t want any of us to be left to walk alone – we need each other.  We want to be a church, not a crowd

Why do you have multiple campuses?

Our Christian Schools are a vital part of our ministry here at Horizon. We have a heart for the community and our schools provide quality education to the Portland Metro area. Our multiple campuses allow us to offer these services for families with children pre-school through twelfth grade. During the week, our facilities house a number of school activities, as well as church events.

      How Can I Know God?

My New Life: What Are My Next Steps With God?

Congratulations! You have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior. This is the greatest, wisest, best decision you have ever made. Now what happens? The next seven days can be the most important week of your life.

Just what has happened to you? That's a good question, and an important one. Knowing what happened and what it means will help you the rest of your Christian life. It happened in a church, in your home or somewhere else. Someone helped you or perhaps you were by yourself. You felt a need, learned that Jesus could help you, and you asked Him to come into your life. Now what does that mean, and where do you go from here?

      The Bible

Get in the habit of reading the Bible every day. Our daily Life Journal reading is available on our home page on the box labeled Daily Bible Reading, or a booklet can be purchased for $5 at the Connection Center on Sundays or you can contact the church office.

      Prayer

Prayer is a conversation between you and God. Talk to Him, and let Him talk to you. Make time every day to pray.

      Tell Someone

Tell others about what happened to you! Share the difference Jesus has made in your life and invite others to learn more about Him, too.

      Find a Church

If you take a live coal from a fireplace and put it by itself, it will soon go out. In the same way, Christians need the encouragement of other Christians. Hearing the word of God, praying with others, singing together, building relationships with other Christians - these things will help you grow in your faith. Find a church home, we would welcome you joining us at Horizon.

      Baptism

Jesus instructs us to be baptized in water. This is also an outward expression and testimony of your faith.
